CBE Beat Vihiga In Six-Goal Thriller

Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) FC ran out 4-2 winners against Vihiga Queens in a CECAFA Women’s Champions League Group B match played at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.

As a result, CBE are now on top of the table, while Vihiga Queens stagnate at bottom of the group with goal difference separating the Kenyans with third place New Generation Queens of Zanzibar.

Vihiga were the better side in the opening stages of the game, but it was the Bankers , who broke the deadlock.

It was Medina Busser who hit the back of the net with a first time effort to make it 1-0 to CBE eight minutes into the game.

However, CBE’s lead only lasted for three minutes as the hosts managed to restore parity from Maurice Achieng’s beautiful strike.

Vihiga then pushed forward in numbers for their second goal, but again it was CBE who found the back of the net in the 21st minute courtesy of red-hot Busser who bagged the brace after cutting off the hosts defence with ease.

The Kenyan champions got it right on the 37th minute when they found an equalizer with Achieng getting her name again on the score sheet with a powerfully volley past Tarikua Balcha.

The two sides were locked at 2-2 at the half-time.

Jentrix Shikangwa narrowly missed the target ten minutes after restart as her powerful left-foot shot went over the bar.

Vihiga were struggling to contain the Bankers and Buwoli Dengiso missed the target in the 59th minute with a powerful shot.

CBE took control of the match after 68th minute when Medina Busser pounced on a loose ball to riffle home a low shot past Lilian Awuor.

The Ethiopians continued pilling pressure and they scored through Loza Geinoire, who capitalized of Vihiga’s defensive error.

The Bankers will next meet New Generation of Zanzibar on Wednesday at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
