The Central African Republic Football Federation (RCA) has written to Confederation of African Football (CAF) asking for their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier with Morocco moved.
The clash on November 9 is scheduled to take place in Rabat, but the Central African Republic football authorities have raised concerns over the coronavirus situation in the North African nation which is reaching alarming levels.
Morocco has confirmed 72, 374 cases of Covid-19 with over 1,361 deaths registered since the country registered its first case in March this year.
The clash between Les Fauves and Atlas Lions was initially scheduled to be played in March, but was rescheduled due to the virus.
Football in Morocco resumed in July behind closed doors as part of security measures by the government to contain the disease.
RCA outlined several concerns to the African football governing body in the confidential letter as reported by French publication Afrik Foot.
Sources at CAF headquarters in Cairo indicate their new secretary general Abdelmounaïm Bah has promised a “follow up” but a formal response from CAF is expected in the coming week.
It is likely CAF might not heed to their request considering Morocco league has been smoothly going on with few cases reported among participating teams.
Morocco currently leads Group E with four points followed by Mauritania, C.A.R who have three points and Burundi.
Any two of the group’s four teams can still qualify for this year’s finals in Cameroon.
