CHAN 2020: Mubiru Names Uganda Squad To Face Burundi

Uganda national team’s stand-in coach Abdallah Mubiru has named a 32-man squad for preparations ahead of the 2020 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) final round qualifier against Burundi.

Uganda national team’s stand-in coach Abdallah Mubiru has named a 32-man squad for preparations ahead of the 2020 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) final round qualifier against Burundi.

Mubiru has drafted new players into the squad to join the core that did duty against Somalia in the first round of qualifiers played last month.

Wakiso Giants midfielder Viane Ssekajugo has been included in the squad after a huge outcry when the former Onduparaka man missed the Uganda team for the last week international friendly against Kenya.

He will compete for the starting role with the likes of Paul Mucureezi and Mutyaba Muzamir who played in the first round of CHAN qualifiers.

Also included in the team are Benson Tahomera, Wahab Ghadafi, Vianney Sekajugo, Kayiwa Allan, Proline FC attack-minded duo of  Bright Anukani and Sam Kintu, as well as forwards Bayo Fahad and Lubega Edrisa.

The team reports to camp on August 12, ahead of the first leg set to be played on September 21 in Bujumbura. The second leg will be played at the Nelson Mandela Stadium on October 18.

The winner of the two-legged qualifier will book a ticket for the tournament that will be hosted in Cameroon next year.
