The Chinese FA has launched investigations after Shanghai Shenua Senegalese forward Demba Ba became a victim of racial insults from an opposing player in the Chinese Super League.
According to his Coach Wu Jingui, the former Newcastle and Chelsea forward was allegedly abused during Shenua’s 1-1 draw against Changchun Yatai.
“I learned that a Yatai player used insulting language towards him,” the Shanghai Shenshua Coach told the press after the match.
Various media outlets that covered the game confirmed his allegations revealing that opposing midfielder Zhang Li repeatedly shouted “You black” after Ba collided with a teammate.
He was involved in a heated exchange with the Chanchun Yetai midfielder but the referee was quick to calm the situation.
The Chinese FA which takes a strong stand against racism immediately released a statement that it had launched an investigation into the claims.
“Around the World, it’s been stressed that there should be no insulting speech towards black athletes. The Chinese Super League has players of different skin colors, so we should respect out opponents and there should be no discrimination.”
“If this is true, there will be stern punishments in accordance with the rule. We oppose racist behavior in any form,” the Chinese FA stated..
His former team Besiktas also tweeted in support to Ba, saying ‘#NoToRacism, You’re not alone.’
