Zambia senior national team, the Chipolopolo is set to play Libya and Mali in a three-nation tournament in Benghazi.

The tournament dubbed Benghazi International Cup will be played at Martyrs of February Stadium during the September FIFA widow.

The competition is expected to kick off from Wednesday, September 21 to Saturday, September 25, and will see the three participating teams play against each other.

Football Association of Zambia General Secretary Adrian Kashala says the participation in the Benghazi Cup is part of keeping the Chipolopolo activated.

“We are happy to announce that the Zambia Senior Men’s Senior Team will participate in a Tri-Nation Tournament during the September 2022 FIFA Window. We will keep to our consistent pledge of keeping the Chipolopolo engaged across all FIFA windows and ensure that the technical benches continue refining our team ahead of crucial AFCON qualifiers next year,” Kashala said.

“This will present an opportunity for the technical bench to see more players that are part of the plans for international competitive matches. There are some few players from the diaspora that the technical bench may unleash during the FIFA window.”

Zambia will play hosts Libya on September 21 before engaging the Eagles of Mali three days later.

Chipolopolo were set to be engaged in 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers next month but they wre moved to March next year.

Elsewhere, FAZ has announced that former Zambia National Team coach Colonel Brightwell Banda passed away at the age of 76.

He was the first indigenous coach having taken the reigns in 1976 from Croatian coach Ante Buselic before signing a three-year full-time contract nine years later.
