South Africa Premier Soccer League side, Chippa United is in talks with former Black Leopards forward Joseph Mhlongo over a possible switch to the Chilli Boys.
The lanky striker is a free agent after he apparently rejected an offer of a contract extension with Leopards. Chippa is shopping for a new striker who can also operate as an attacking midfielder.
Mhlongo’s representative, Ratshibvumo Mulovhedzi confirmed Chippa is among the clubs interested in signing his client who is also on Highlands Park’s radar.
“These clubs have always been interested in his services just before the Covid-19 pandemic broke, and things slowed down. But I’m sure that they are still interested,” Mulovhedz told Daily Sun.
“Most of these clubs offered him pre-contracts but we delayed to give Leopards first preference.
“But with the revised offer from Leopards, we realized Mhlongo is no longer young and he wanted to get something better and solid.”
Mhlongo was one of Black Leopards key players during the 2017/18 National First Division (NFD) campaign and PSL promotion/relegation playoffs.
The well-travelled forward hit the back of the net five times in 22 league appearances and he helped Leopards gain promotion to the elite league after finishing at the top of the playoffs standings.
Mhlongo joined Leopards as a free agent in July 2017 following the sale of FC Cape Town to Ubuntu Cape Town.
Chippa United currently occupy 12th place on the log standings, a mere three points above the relegation zone ahead of the Premier Soccer League’s restart.
