Club Africain Elects New Chairman but Uncertainty Lingers Over the Coach’s Future

The wait over who becomes Tunisian Premier League outfit, Club Africain’s new chairman is at last over with the election of Maroune Hammoudia. Hammoudia shrugged off competition from a number of candidates in last weekend’s congress to replace Slim Riahi as the club’s newest boss.

Riahi, a politician-cum business mogul, leaves office with 100 million Dinars in debts during his five-year spell at the helm which must now be the burden of newly elected Hammoudia and his seven-member steering committee.

Club Africain dogged by a catalog of problems and crisis at an administrative level, has reflected in the team’s performances in the domestic league as the El Menza side sits precariously near the relegation-zone of the 14-team log.

The ushering in of Hammoudia as the new top dog at the capital-based outfit is a beacon of hope, which is expected to signal an end to the meltdown threatening to tear apart the club but there’s an issue the committee must deal with first –the future of Italian gaffer and coach Marco Simone.

Simone’s future is much discussed this moment with rumors suggesting he could exit the club.

Reports from the grapevine claim Africain could see the back of him this Friday with the committee to relieve him of his coaching responsibilities with the first team.
