Coach Pollack Hints On Gor Mahia Exit

Gor Mahia coach Steve Pollack has given his strongest hint yet that he might consider leaving the Kenyan Premier League champions.

Gor Mahia coach Steve Pollack has given his strongest hint yet that he might consider leaving the Kenyan Premier League champions.

Pollack, who penned a two-year deal in August, is reported to have not been paid his salary for the last four months.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, the Briton said he would consider his future in the next few weeks as he feels frustrated by the ongoing strike by players who are protesting lack of salaries.

“Things are continuing to be tough not only to the players but also for me. I’m the sole breadwinner for my family back at home and I have to pay for their house and take care of them. I will have to make a decision in a few days on the way forward,” said Polack.

Gor Mahia president Ambrose Rachier confirmed that they owed players’ salaries, adding that his club is currently experiencing financial challenges after the exit of shirt sponsor at the beginning of the session.

“Honestly the players are not happy as far as payment is concerned. We do not have money and there is little I can do to salvage the situation,” said Rachier.

“I have shared this with the players whom we normally give something to sustain them as we keep knocking on sponsors’ doors. We have been in negotiations with Umbro since September and hopefully, we will sign soon.”

Gor Mahia are currently leading the Kenyan Premier League table with 24 points and are scheduled to next meet Kisumu All Stars on December 22 in Kisumu.
