Former Hamburger SV defender Collin Benjamin has been appointed as Namibia’s new head coach, the country’s football federation revealed in a statement.
The 43-year-old, who spent a decade with the German club, has signed a five-year contract.
Benjamin takes over from former international Bob Samaria who was fired due to Brave Warriors inconstant results in various competitions for the past four years.
The Namibia Football Federation’s normalization committee also revealed that it has assigned Benjamin with a task of ensuring the Brave Warriors qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
He is expected also to build a strong and forceful Brave Warriors for 2027 Africa Cup of Nations as Namibia bid to co-host with Botswana.
Namibia started their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign with a 1-1 draw against Burundi in neutral Johannesburg on Jun 4.
Benjamin’s immediate task will be to take charge of the Brave Warriors’ in the 2022 COSAFA Cup that is set to be staged in Durban, South Africa from 5-17 July.
“We have a lot of work to do, and I will rely and depend a lot on all football stakeholders, including the media to assist me in taking the Brave Warriors from great to even greater heights”, Benjamin appealed during his unveiling ceremony in Windhoek.
He started his coaching career with German second division club TSV 1860 München as an assistant manager before being named Brave Warrriors deputy coach in 2019.
