Congolese Striker Makusu Delighted By Pirates Loan Move

Democratic Republic of Congo striker Jean-Marc Mundele Makusu has expressed his delight after joining South Africa Premier Soccer League side Orlando Pirates on loan from AS Vita.

Democratic Republic of Congo striker Jean-Marc Mundele Makusu has expressed his delight after joining South Africa Premier Soccer League side Orlando Pirates on loan from AS Vita.

The 28-year-old moves to Pirates for a season-long loan, with an option to make the deal permanent.

Makusu was due to join Moroccan outfit RS Berkane but a double-leg break injury halted his transfer in July 2019. The Sea Robbers have since secured his services.

“I am happy to have joined this prestigious Club and I look forward to a successful stay. This move presents a new challenge in a new country for me,” Makusu told the club website.

“ I have lofty ambitions and I am confident that I can achieve them with my new teammates.”

Pirates head coach Josef Zinnbauer welcomed the striker who guided Vita to the 2018 African Confederation Cup final.

“We are pleased to have Makusu join the team and we look forward to working with him,” commented Zinnbauer.

“Our squad this year has every player in each position competing for a spot in the starting line-up and it will be no different to him. The healthy competition we have created will help get the best out of all our players.”

This is Makuu’s first loan switch since rejoining Vita from Egyptian Premier League outfit Wadi Delga.

Makusu had a stupendous campaign last season when he finished AS Vita’s all-time top scorer having netted 44 goals across all competitions and was the Confederations Cup top scorer.
