Controversial S/A Referee Gomes Picked for Raja-Esperance CL Tie

Victor Gomes is the man to take centre stage in overseeing the big group stage Champions League fixture between Raja Casablanca and Esperance.

The controversial arbiter was selected by Confederation of African Football Refereeing Committee today ahead of the tie.

Moroccan moneybags Raja are fitted in the same group with DR Congo’s AS Vita Club, JS Kabylie but begin their CAF Champions League campaign on 30^th November 2019 at home at the Stade Mohammed V stadium against title-holders Esperance du Tunis.

Despite being in a massively tough group, this opening fixture will attract a lot of attention as well as revenue for organisers leading to the selection of respected but controversial Victor Gomes as the tie’s referee.

Gomes, 36, is popular for his temperament in the South African Absa Premier Soccer League but shot to continental fame when he claimed a team attempted bribing him in a CAF Champions League fixture.
