Crawley Town Defender David Sesay Ready To Play For Kenya

Brent-born Davis Sesay has revealed his readiness to play for Kenya at the international level.

Brent-born Davis Sesay has revealed his readiness to play for Kenya at the international level.

The 21-year-old defender who plays for League Two side Crawley Town is eligible to play for the Harambee Stars as he holds dual-nationality and has not represented England at any level.

In March 2019, the ex-Watford player was called up for international duty by then Stars coach Sebastien Migne but turned down the invite due to club commitments.

“That (Kenya) is where my mum comes from. It is my heritage. Last time I had just broken into the first team here and was playing games in a row,” said Sesay.

“We were not in the best position in the league. There were some few media outlets in Kenya that said I declined the call-up, that wasn’t the case. I think those that needed to understand my decision did understand,” he added.

Sesay has been with the Red Devils since 2018 and has been impressive this season playing on the left rather than his favoured right side.

Sesay’s admission could give Kenya coach Francis Kimanzi an extra option as he looks for a long-term addition to left-back duo of Eric “Marcelo” Ouma and veteran Aboud Omar.

Kenya will be facing Comoros in a back-to-back 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifying game at a date that is yet to be announced by the Confederation of African Football.

The Harambee Stars are also pooled alongside Uganda, Rwanda and Mali in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
