David Owino Leaves Zesco United After Six Years

David Owino has parted ways with Zesco United after coming to the end of his contract.

David Owino has parted ways with Zesco United after coming to the end of his contract, the club confirmed on Thursday.

Owino joined the Team Ya Ziko in 2015 and become a key part of the side that won 2017, 2018 and 2019 Zambian Super League titles.

The last one season, however, have seen the Kenyan defender largely inactive due to serious complications following an Achilles injury that at one point could have led to the end of his career.

Now Zesco have confirmed that the 32-year-old will be a free agent in January, with links to Indian Super League side Chennaiyin FC having already emerged.

“Kenyan international defender David Owino Odhiambo has left ZESCO United after six successful years at the club,” the club revealed on their official website.

“Odhiambo’s contract with ZESCO United expired today (Thursday).

“Famously known as ‘Calabar’ among the ZESCO United faithfuls, Odhiambo established himself among the best foreign acquisitions the club has made in recent years.

“Signed from Kenyan Premier League side, Gor Mahia, Odhiambo went on to win 4 league titles,3 Absa Cup championship and 2 Charity Shield honours.

“Odhiambo will be remembered for his great defensive abilities. His intellect on and off the ball made him one of the most dependable defenders at the club.”

Before joining Zesco in 2015, Finnish top-tier side Jaro was also hunting for his services but the two sides failed to agree on terms and Zesco moved with speed to secure his signature.
