Former Chelsea and Ivory Coast forward Didier Drogba is “weighing all options” before deciding if he will enter the country’s football governing body’s presidency race, according to multiple media reports.
Several highly placed personalities within the football fraternity including people from the private sector have offered to back Drogba and to nominate him to stand against the incumbent Sidy Diallo.
Drogba, a former Elephants captain, is believed to be in the process of consulting following which he will then make a formal announcement on Wednesday or a few days later.
The Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) Executive Committee, however, has not yet announced elections date, but according to various sources, the vote will be conducted in December this year.
Deadline for contenders to be nominated by at least five FIF branches will most likely be in the month of October.
Eugene Diomande, who is the president of local side Sewe Sport, is rumoured to be among the cabal seeking to oust Diallo out of power.
Drogba is seen as the strongest contender as he will not need much to convince the movers and shakers of the game in the West African nation that he is the right man to spearhead the revolution of the sport.
The 41-year-old scored 65 times in 105 caps for the Ivory Coast, playing in three World Cups and being named African Footballer of the Year twice.
