Dipu Ruparelia Elected New FMU President

Dipu Ruparelia is the new Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) president after beating his closest competitor Jack Wavamuno.

Dipu Ruparelia is the new Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) president after beating his closest competitor Jack Wavamuno by 11 votes in the election exercise carried out at Lugogo Sports Complex on Saturday evening.

Ruparelia managed to get 36 votes against Wavamuno’s 25 with incumbent Dusman Okee only managing 14 votes while Geoffrey Nsamba was fourth with 11 votes.

“This is a dawn of the new era. We are going to build the sport to a level that can motivate many more to join it,” Dipu said in his acceptance speech.

Ruparelia, a businessman by profession, is one of the founders of Uganda Motorsports Club (UMOSPOC) and a former rally driver under Crane Bank Rally Team.

He will serve as FMU president for the next four years.

Meanwhile, Jeff Kabagambe was elected deputy Vice President Motorsports after beating veteran sports journalist Leon Senyange by three votes.

Kabagambe managed 44 votes while Senyange got 41 votes while Kisitu Mayanja (58) beat George Semakula (19) for the post of Deputy Vice President in charge motorcycling.

General Secretary Leila Blick Mayanja registered the biggest victory with 66 votes as he waved off a feeble challenge from Renald Kibira, who got 19 votes.

Ernest Ziwa beat Alfred Okello to the position of assistant secretary.
