Stoke City midfield Giannelli Imbula has left the club after terminating his contract by mutual consent.

The 27-year-old Congolese joined the Championship side from Porto in January 2016 and last played for the club in March 2017, spending the past three years out on loan.

“Stoke City can confirm that Giannelli Imbula’s contract with the Club has been cancelled by mutual consent, subject to regulatory approval,” the Potters posted a short statement on their website.

“We wish Giannelli well in his future career.”

Imbula made only made 28 appearances for the club before being loaned to Toulouse in France’s Ligue 1 and later Rayo Vallecano in La Liga.

Stoke loaned him out again to Italian side Lecce this season where he just made only four appearances across all competitions.

Imbula began his career with French side Guingamp in 2009 before joining Marseille in the summer of 2013.

He moved to Porto in July 2015 before making a move to Stoke for a club-record £18.3million.
