DR Congo’s Mbokani Joins Beveren From Kuwait SC

SK Beveren have confirmed that they have signed the Democratic Republic of Congo striker Dieumerci Mbokani from Kuwait SC.

The 36-year-old is considered a somewhat of journeyman, having enjoyed spells at the likes of TP Mazembe, RSC Anderlecht, AS Monaco, VfL Wolfsburg, Norwich City, Hull City, and Dynamo Kyiv.

Mbokani has signed a one-year contract, and the Beveren CEO Antoine Gobin says the striker brings the needed experience on the frontline.

“After the transfer window we were comfortable with the squad we had built and weren’t necessarily looking for any offensive reinforcements. When a player like Dieumerci becomes a possibility, you have to jump on that chance,” said Gobin.

“We believe the qualities that he brings are something all clubs are looking for, and a player like Dieumerci may prove to be the missing link as our team fights at the top of the table this year.

“We are excited to welcome him into the Yellow-Blue family, and believe he will help bring positive memories of SKB to a new generation of fans at the Freethiel.”

Mbokani failed to shine at Kuwait SC and just featured for the club in nine competitive matches without scoring a goal.

He previously played for Royal Antwerp where he scored 52 goals in 105 games to clinch the league top scorer award during the 2019/20 season.

He was discovered from his native Congo by Anderlecht in 2006 and they managed to bring him to Belgium.

In his debut year, Mbokani immediately experienced a highlight in a match against KSK Beveren. The striker scored a hattrick in less than half an hour of playing time. Mbokani left Anderlecht for Standard, where he spent three seasons. In 120 games, the striker scored no less than 50 goals for Standard.
