Drogba joined the likes of former Bolton Wanderers midfielder Khalilou Fadiga, Anthony Baffoe, Roger Milla and Vincent Enyeama in an effort to prevent the infection from growing.

In a video published on his Twitter handle, Drogba urged people to take the crisis seriously in order to decrease the pressure on the health care industry across the continent.

“I ask you to take the subject very seriously because we tend to be too light in the face of the situation,” Drogba said as translated from French.

“It is imperative to respect the measures imposed by your governments. We spread the virus, we are all responsible for the situation. Wash your hands regularly, go out only when necessary, and keep a distance of at least one meter from each other, “he added.

Sports action across the continent has ground to a halt after various sports governing bodies called off fixtures in response to increased concern after cases of COVID-19 started being reported in various nations.

Football which is the passion of the continent has been greatly affected as Confederation of African Football (CAF) has been forced to postpone some of its premier competitions.

The Covid-19 outbreak has spread fast, with Egypt hard hit after recording 294 infections as listed on Sunday.

Mozambique confirmed index case on March 22 becoming the 43rd infection nation in Africa, but CAF has assured football lovers that it is monitoring the situation closely and remain in constant touch with global partners such as WHO, FIFA and State Agencies on the way forward.
