Drogba’s Candidacy For Ivorian FA Elections Rejected

The Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) electoral commission has rejected the candidacy of Africa legend Didier Drogba for the September 5 polls.

The Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) electoral commission has rejected the candidacy of Africa legend Didier Drogba for the September 5 polls.

Drogba, who had earlier reported to have been given a light to contest for the federation’s president position, was kicked out of the race on grounds that two names that he submitted as sponsors had no authority to do so.

The former Chelsea star, who presented his papers to the commission on August 1, was informed about his failure to meet the election requirement along with Paul Koffi Kouadio.

Drogba is reported set to head to the Ivorian FA Disputes and Resolution Tribunal to appeal to the decision.

The race for the Ivorian FA presidency is now left with two men- Sory Diabaté and Yacine Diallo after the electoral commission cleared them to contest for at the upcoming polls in the West African country.

The 42-year-old, Drogba, has been struggling to get support as his fellow players failed to back the former national team captain.

Only three Ivorian Ligue 1 clubs, two Ligue 2 clubs, two Championnat Division 3 clubs and an interest group endorsed his candidacy.

Drogba played in three World Cups with the Ivory Coast and twice helped them to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations.
