Edmond Tapsoba Praises Former Club Salitas

It’s now five years since Edmond Tapsoba left, but the defender has kept a close eye on Salitas FC’s progress and he is proud to have played part in establishing the Oranges as a Burkina Faso Premier League club.

Tapsoba recently joined Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen from Vitoria Guimaraes on a five and a half-year contract, meaning that he is due to remain at the club until at least the summer of 2025.

In a live Instagram chat with celebrated Burkinabe journalist Moussavou Billa, Tapsoba said that he is proud of Salitas, a club that he played for between 2014 and 2015.

“I am very happy for Salitas FC; their progress in the continental arena is pleasing considering they were recently promoted to Burkina Faso Premier League,” Tapsoba said as translated from French.

“Currently they are leading the Burkinabe league. It is a source of pride. I was champion with them in Division 3 and Division 2.”

Tapsoba spent one year with the team before moving to fellow hometown outfit US Ouagadougou but wouldn’t make a first-team appearance for either capital club before heading to Portugal as an 18-year-old.

By then, Tapsoba was already a full international having made his Burkina Faso debut at just 17 years, six months and 22 days old in a friendly against Uzbekistan on 24 August 2016.

He initially signed for Leixoes in Portugal’s second tier but would only be at the Estadio de Mar for a season before top-flight Vitoria Guimaraes came calling in 2018.

Before switching to Germany, the centre back was linked with a move to Premier League side Leicester who were impressed by the Ouagadougou native’s displays against Arsenal in Europa League.
