Zamalek SC president Mortada Mansour and the entire board of directors have been suspended after a review of the club’s questionable expenditures.
The Egyptian Ministry of Sports imposed a suspension to Mansour along with the club’s board members basing on the conclusion reached by the financial and administrative inspection committee assigned to probe the club’s financial books.
“The ministry has decided to refer the financial violations mentioned in its report to the Public Prosecution,” the sports Ministry statement reads.
“It also decided to suspended Zamalek club’s board of directors … on a temporary basis until the conclusion of the Public Prosecution’s investigations … or until the legal period prescribed by law for the board of directors expires, whichever is earlier.”
Mansour, who was elected as Zamalek chairman in 2014 before winning another term in 2017, known for his outlandish media outbursts, has been subject to 12 official complaints to the public prosecutor.
During Mansour’s time as Zamalek’s football director, the White Knights rose towards the upper echelons of African football again with five Egyptian Cup triumphs, the CAF Confederation Cup, Super Cup and one Egyptian Premier League title.
Meanwhile, the Sports Ministry has appointed former club board member and president of the Court of Appeal in Cairo Ahmed Bakry to head Zamalek interim committee for the time being.
Bakry will be joined by Hesham Ibrahim Ahmed Mahmoud and Mohamed Sayed Attia Ali Ahmed.
