The Egyptian Football Association has rejected the Confederation of African Football proposal to host the delayed African Champions League Group C tie between Wydad Casablanca and Kaizer Chiefs.
The two giants had been due to play on Saturday in Morocco but was called off when Chiefs failed to secure the necessary visas to travel.
Egyptian FA had agreed to host the tie on Friday in Al Salam City but rejected the latest proposed date of February 28 that had been reached by the both clubs.
In a statement, Cairo claimed they are unable to host the fixture citing that the date and circumstances surrounding the game don’t match the current commitments.
“We would like to draw your kind attention that the Egyptian FA had already confirmed with great pleasure to host the game in question on February 19, in the frame of the usual collaboration between CAF-EFA,” reads a letter from the EFA to CAF, which Ducor Sports has seen.
“However, we regret to inform you that the change of date of the said match conflicts with the fixtures of the Egyptian league where many matches are going to be played on that day. It will hence be extremely difficult to adjust the dates of any matches in this respect. We hence regret to inform you that we will not be in a position to organize the match in question.”
Kaizer Chiefs will now turn their focus to their African Champions League clash against Guinea’s Horoya AC on 23 February as they wait for CAF to decide on Wydad game.
