The new coach for the Egypt national team Pharaohs will be known on Wednesday 28th August, according to an official from the Egyptian Football Association (EFA).
The federation has been on the hunt for a new coach for two months since the sacking of Mexican Javier Aguirre who was shown the door after their shock second-round exit at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
EFA spokesperson Osama Ismail has revealed that the football governing body will name new coach in the next two days after a consultative meeting.
“We will know the name of the national team coach on Wednesday if all goes as normal,” he said in an interview with reporters.
The Egyptian government recently declared that the upcoming coach should not be a foreign manager, something that the federation has taken a keynote.
“We are looking at six to seven names to choose one of them. All the candidates are Egyptian,” added Ismail.
Several coaches have been linked with the job including former Al Ahly manager Hossam El-Badry, Smouha manager Hossam Hassan and legendary coach Hassan Shehata.
More recently, several reports suggested that Al Masry manager Ihab Galal was next in line to coach the national team.
Egypt’s former coach Aguirre departed after less than a year in the job but not before setting a unique record by coaching at four different continental championships.
He won the Concacaf Gold Cup with his native Mexico in 2009, took them to the final of the Copa America and was in charge of Japan four years ago when they went out in the Asian Cup quarter-finals.
