Egyptian FA Suspends Top Zamalek, Al Ahly Players

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) disciplinary committee has suspended six players form Zamalek and Al Ahly due to unsporting behaviour during the Egyptian Super Cup final match.

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) disciplinary committee has suspended six players from Zamalek and Al Ahly due to unsporting behaviour during the Egyptian Super Cup final match.

Zamalek winger Mahmoud Shikabala was given an eight-match suspension whilst his partner Abdullah Gomaa will miss three matches after being accused of misconduct during their Super Cup clash played at the United Arab Emirates.

Al Ahly’s Mahmoud Kahraba and Zamalek’s Imam Ashour received the harshest penalties with both players banned for the rest of the season while the Red Devils duo of Yassir Ibrahim and Junior Ajayie were banned for two matches.

EFA also banned Zamalek chairman, Mortada Mansour, from all football-related activity for three games and fined him 200,000 Egyptian Pounds.

According to the match officials’ report, Zamalek players celebrated the trophy in front of the Ahly fans seats, showing little to no respect for rival supporters, with their skipper Mahmoud Shikabala was captured on cameras behaving badly.

Ahly players went to Zamalek players to stop them from harassing club fans, which caused unrest in the field after the game.

The EFA immediately moved to announce the disciplinary actions after launching investigations against the players who were involved in the chaos after the game which ended 4-3 win on penalties in Zamalek’s favor.

Al Ahly are set to host Zamalek again on Monday in the Egyptian Premier League’s postponed Cairo derby.
