Egyptian Premier League Side Rehires Former Coach

Frenchman Patrice Carteron has been re-appointed as Zamalek head coach, replacing Portuguese coach Jaime Pacheco who was dismissed on Friday.

Frenchman Patrice Carteron has been re-appointed as Zamalek head coach, replacing Portuguese coach Jaime Pacheco who was dismissed on Friday.

Carteron left the club in September 2020 to be replaced by Pacheco but as the team looks to make a mark on the African Champions League, the White Knights needed a strong bench to do the job.

In his previous stint, Carteron had a perfect record as he lost only three matches, winning 19 in 31 games that he was in-charge.

He helped the White Knights win the African and Egyptian Super Cups in February 2020 before leaving for Saudi Professional League side Al Taawoun.

The 50-year-old remains the fourth foreign coach and the second Frenchman after the late Henri Michel to settle on the bench of the White Knights.

Carteron won the Africa Champions League crown in 2015 with DR Congo giants TP Mazembe and also has prior experience in Saudi League with a stint at Al Nassr in 2017.

Zamalek are currently leading the Egyptian Premier League table with 33 points, six ahead of rivals Al Ahly who have a healthy three games in hand.
