Former Togo national team captain Emmanuel Adebayor has confirmed his departure from Turkish side Kayserispor.

Former Togo national team captain Emmanuel Adebayor has confirmed his departure from Turkish side Kayserispor.

The 35-year-old joined the Turkish Super Lig club three months ago on a free transfer after leaving Istanbul Basaksehir at the end of last season by mutual consent.

The former Arsenal, Real Madrid and Manchester City forward confirmed his exit on Tuesday after Kayserispor bowed to a 4-1 loss against Besiktas which left them at the base of the table with seven points from 13 matches.

“I’ve ended my contract with Kayserispor in Turkey and I am returning home to spend time with my family. I tried to give my energy and will to this team since I arrived. I gave my best but sometimes you have some issues in your personal life,” Adebayor told the media.

“You think about your family and have to make decisions about your future. And that decision should be fast. I have decided not to continue my career here. Even though I am leaving physically, my heart will always beat for this team,” he added.

I have to rest and spend some time with my family. I had three great years here and I think that the Turkish league is among the best leagues in Europe.”   [/perfectpullquote]

During his adventure in Turkish football, Adebayor made 68 appearances and scored 26 goals as well as given six assists.

Adebayor remains the country’s all-time top scorer with 32 goals and played for them at their only World Cup appearance in 2006.

He’s played for the Sparrow Hawks in four Africa Cup of Nations in 2002, 2006, 2013 and 2017.
