Anfield had only sixteen minutes to celebrate and savor the individual genius of Mane before the Liverpool fans were silenced.
Mwepu reduced the deficit on the 41st minute with an audacious curling shot from the corner of the area.
Brighton then drew level in the 65th minute through Leandro Trossard, who prodded beyond Alisson Becker after collecting Adam Lallana’s pass, ensuring they took a share of the points.
Liverpool almost got into the lead shortly afterwards but Mohamed Salah’s fierce shot scraped the outside of the right post moments later.
