Spanish tactician Daniel Guindos has been named as the new Equatorial Guinea coach, the country’s Ministry of Sports announced on Tuesday.

He will replace Angel Lopez who left his job two weeks ago despite Equatorial Guinea making to the 2022 World Cup qualifiers group stage.

Guindos, who will be managing the national team, will be assisted with a backroom staff that will be named later by the country’s football governing body.

The new technical bench will be tasked with leading Nzalang Nationale to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations that will be hosted in Cameroon.

The 35-year-old’s most recent job was in Spain with local side AD Alcorcon B, who he left in June by mutual consent.

Guindos will be making his maiden sojourn in Africa, having worked most of his career in Europe and particularly his native Spain.

The exact details of the deal signed by Guindos have not been made public yet.
