The friendly between Equatorial Guinea and Ghana, scheduled for Monday, October 12, 2020 has been called off.
The decision was taken by Equatorial Guinea Football Federation (FEGUIFUT) who cited new Covid-19 travel restrictions imposed by their government.
In a statement released on Friday, FEGUIFUT said the match, scheduled to be played in Antalya, Turkey, would not go ahead as planned.
“FEGUIFUT General Secretary has relayed the message to the Ghana Football Association about the decision,” the statement concluded.
The Nzalang National players have been informed about the cancellation.
Ghana Football Federation has acknowledged that they have been informed by their counterparts about the decision.
“The Equatorial Guinea Football Association informed the GFA of the latest decision late Thursday, citing new travel restrictions imposed on their country. Equatorial Guinea’s borders are closed, and flights are suspended due to new COVID-19 rules,” read part of a publication by the Ghana federation.
It’s understood Ghana FA are furiously trying to find another country who would step in to fulfil the fixture which is part of Black Stars preparations for the upcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sudan.
Ghana top Group F with 6 points following victories against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe in November 2019.
