Etoile Du Sahel Shifts Focus to League After Africa Confederation Cup Exit

Etoile du Sahel has shifted its focus back to Tunisia Professionelle 1 League after they were bundled out of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Etoile du Sahel has shifted its focus back to Tunisia Professionelle 1 League where they aim to finish strongly after they were bundled out of the CAF Confederation Cup at the semi-final stage by Zamalek on Sunday 5 May.

The Egyptian outfit were resolute in defense as they held the Red and White to a 0-0 draw at a packed Olympic Stadium to go through to the final on a 1-0 aggregate.

“Today we failed to achieve the task at hand and that’s a big disappointment. That’s football, there’s a winner and a loser. We must turn our focus now to the domestic competition that will set us back on the track of victory,” Etoile du Sahel head coach Roger Lemerre said in an interview with CAF Online.

The 77-year-old gaffer also lavished praise to his conquers and said Etoile lost to the more experienced team though he believes they could have won.

“We failed to score in both legs so we shouldn’t expect a victory. Congratulations to Zamalek who deserve this qualification after a spectacular and consistent defensive style they played today,” he added.

The Red and White are third in the Tunisia Professionelle 1 League with 36 points from 18 matches and Lemere believes his club will come back stronger next season.

Etoile du Sahel will face eleventh placed, Metlaoui away at the Stade Municipal de Metlaoui on Wednesday 8th May, after their clash with the league leaders Esperance de Tunis was postponed to a later date.
