Bangladesh national team coach Jamie Day has been linked with taking over the coaching role at top Kenyan club Gor Mahia.
Besides Day, Brazilian coach Robert Oliveira Goncalves do Carmo is also said to be eyeing the K’Ogalo coaching job.
The Kenyan champions suffered a setback on Thursday last week when English coach Dylan Kerr resigned with immediate effect barely two weeks to their CAF Champions League preliminary match against Malawian side, Nyasa Big Bullets.
Zedekiah Otieno, who served as Kerr’s assistant last season and is currently holding brief, is also under consideration.
Day’s last job before moving to Bangladesh was with Forest Green Rovers, but it is now understood he could be in the dugout for the Kenyan club at the start of the 2018/19 SportPesa Premier League.
The experienced tactician has managed also Braintree Town, Ebbsfleet United and Welling United in England.
Meanwhile, previous reports suggested that former Free State Stars coach Luc Eymael was tipped to take over the coaching reins, but his agents are claimed to have asked for a huge salary.
Who is Day?
Day started his playing career as a trainee at Arsenal and he was named as a substitute by Arsene Wenger on one occasion, but never appeared for the Gunners’ first team. He went on to play for AFC Bournemouth, Dover Athletic, Crawley Town, Welling, and Grays.
Having his career cut short by injuries, Jamie set his ambitions of being a career coach and coached the youth teams of Arsenal FC and Charlton Athletic. Under the personal recommendation of Eddie Howe and Arsene Wenger, he attained his UEFA ‘A’ Coaching License and moved onto senior Coaching in 2009.
The 38-year-old was named as the head coach for Bangladesh in May this year, replacing Andrew Ord who resigned after the team’s 2-2 draw against Laos in an international friendly on April 3.
