Former CAF Confederation Cup winner Ahmed Sayed Zizo has been banned for attacking a referee.

Zizo had Sporting Club Zamalek sweating over his absence after he got given his marching order for “gross indiscipline”.

The incident occurred during Al Ahly’s victory over Zamalek on a final league day last season, a fixture eventual title winners the Red Devils of Cairo wrapped up 1-0.

Left-back Ali Maaloul’s goal in the 59th minute was the difference-maker at the Borg El Arabi stadium.

The Egyptian FA competition committee has been subjecting the incident to study and have decided to slap a four-match suspension on Ahmed along with a 5,000 Egyptian pounds fine.

It’s unclear, as at press time, whether Zamalek, bossed by controversial chairman Mortada Mansour, will appeal the decision.

A  600,000 euros buy from Portuguese Primera Division outfit Moreirense and once targeted by English Premier League Leicester City, the 23-year-old has been featured fifteen times, twelve of those coming from the starting lineup, scoring once for the White Knights.
