Former Horoya AC Patrice Neveu is closing in on a deal with Gabon Football Federation, according to reports in Libreville.

Former Horoya AC head coach Patrice Neveu is closing in on a deal with Gabon Football Federation, according to reports in Libreville.

The French tactician, who left the Guinean giants late last month, may be confirmed as the new Panthers coach as he is among the three people shortlisted for the job.

Over 80 coaches applied for the vacant job following the sacking of Daniel Cousin in March.

The list was reduced to 23 and now three names have been forwarded to the Sports Minister Alain Claude Billie-By-Nze.

Of the three- Neveu, Hubert Velud and Jean-Louis Garcia – one will be selected by the Gabon Football Federation to take over immediately.

Neveu is understood to have met with the Gabon Football Federation President, who is said to prefer the Frenchman over the three other names on the shortlist.

Neveu started his coaching career with French semi-professional clubs Angoulme and La Rochelle before moving to Africa and China.

He has worked in Morocco at AS Sale, Egypt with Ismaily and Smouha, Niger, DR Congo, Mauritania, Haiti, Laos national teams and CO Medina in Tunisia and in China worked at Dalian Shide and Zhuhai.

Meanwhile, two coaches Patrice Carteron and Former Gabonese international defender Thierry Mouyouma have been named on standby and the Gabonese FA source says they will be drafted in the event either or all the quintet is not readily available.

The Panthers has been without a coach since former Gabon captain Daniel Cousin was dismissed in March 28 after failing to qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
