Napsa Stars head coach Mohammed Fathi has sanctioned the exit of Kenyan striker Timothy Otieno to open a foreign quota spot for potential new signings.
Otieno arrived with a massive reputation in September last year having finished as the 2019/20 Kenyan Premier League season’s top scorer with 15 goals.
But his return of one goal and two assists in 10 games in all competitions has yet to endear him to the demanding fans of the Pensioners.
The towering striker’s style of play which is notably unsuitable for Fathi’s fluid tactical system has also raised question marks surrounding his future.
As a result, Napsa Stars technical director Honor Janza has confirmed the club has opted to terminate his contract with immediate effect.
Otieno is the first amongst the foreign contingent that Fathi has deemed surplus to requirements as he looks to bolster his squad with further attacking talent.
The 26-year-old signed the Pensioners from Kenyan Premier League giants Tusker FC after agreeing to pen a three-year contract.
The attacker’s contract was set to elapse in December last year but the player opted for a way out to play in lucrative Zambian league.
Napsa Stars face Gor Mahia in the final preliminary round of African Confederation Cup where they will be hoping to eliminate the Kenyan champions to make it to the group stage of the competition.
The first leg will be played in Nairobi on February 14 with the second leg set for Zambia a week later.
