Ferdinand Omanyala Runs 100m World Leading Time

Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala erupted to a world-leading time in the men 100m race at the Kip Keino Classic that was held on June 7 at Moi International Sports Centre, Nairobi on Saturday.

The 25-year-old clocked 9.85sec to smash 9.90 sec world lead set by Ghana’s Benjamin Azamati in March at Texas Relay Race.

Omanyala finished ahead of United States’ Olympic 100m silver medalist Fred Kerley who clocked 9.92 sec.

The world lead means that the  Kenyan sprinter has recorded the best mark achieved worldwide within a given season, 2022.

“I promised to deliver and I did it,” said Omanyala.

“Bring on the Aftica, World Championships and Commonwealth Games!” said Omanyala, adding that his dream is to run 9.6 seconds this season is still valid.

“I have an African record yes but I want titles.”

Omanyala was expected to race alongside Italian Marcell Jacobs but the Olympics 100m champion pulled out at the last minute from his long-awaited return to the track in Nairobi because of intestinal problems.
