FIFA Appoints Normalization Committee for Namibian Football Association

FIFA has appointed a normalization committee to run the affairs of the Namibia Football Association (NFA).

FIFA has appointed a normalization committee to run the affairs of the Namibia Football Association (NFA).

The football’s world governing body backed its decision to enact the article 8 paragraph 2 of the FIFA Statutes after a recent visit by Fifa and Caf to Windhoek.

The new committee has been tasked to hold elections for the new NFA executive committee before 30 May 2019 and with daily responsibilities of the association.

“The Bureau of the FIFA Council yesterday decided to appoint a normalization committee for the Namibia Football Association (NFA) in accordance with art. 14 par. 1 a) and art. 8 par. 2 of the FIFA Statutes,” a statement reads on the FIFA website.

“The committee will be in charge of running the daily affairs of NFA, ensure that the members of the NFA whose executive committees are out of mandate to organize and conduct the relevant elections, and once elections have been held at the member level, organize and conduct elections of a new NFA Executive Committee.”

“The normalization committee will also act as an electoral committee and none of its members will be eligible for any of the open positions in the elections.”

FIFA visited Namibia in December last year and it is said that the world football governing body had mandated a forensic audit of the NFA since there seemed to be ‘several occurrences of financial mismanagement and conflicts of interest at the NFA.’
