FIFA, CAF To Intervene In Chad Crisis

A delegation comprising representatives from FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) will arrive in Chad on Thursday in a bid to avoid a suspension from international football for the country, Ducor Sports reports.

Chad is walking in suspension tightrope after top football administrators in the central African country were implicated in a police investigations over corruption related activities.

FIFA have long held a dim view of this and have been quick to suspend federations in the recent past.

Chad’s Ministry of Sports recently failed to approve Gazelle FC to participate in African Champions League after the funds allocated to the team were reported to have ended up in the football officials’ pockets.

CAF Executive Committee took the decision of solving the crisis between the Chadian Football Federation and the government on Friday during its meeting held in Cameroon capital, Younde.

FIFA have previously warned the FTFA that they will take action is there is court interference in football.

A short CAF press release stated about the establishment of a committee to resolve the issue but failed short of mentioning arrival date.

“The Executive Committee recommended the establishment of a joint CAF-FIFA mission, to assist in the formulation of ways out of the crisis between the Chad Football Federation and Government authorities,”it reads.

If Chad do receive a suspension it would call into question their participation in the remainder of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers that resume in March.
