No action will be taken against ex-Kakamega Homeboyz coach Paul Nkata accused of match-fixing in the Kenyan Premier League.
The Ugandan gaffer was accused of having received cash to influence the outcome of top-flight matches pitting the Western Kenya based outfit versus Sony Sugar and Mathare United in 2019.
The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) confirmed FIFA’s decision on Friday stating that it had dismissed the charges in view of the lack of sufficient evidence that could corroborate the match-fixing claims.
“FIFA dismisses all charges against Ugandan coach Paul Nkata in the matter they investigated on for allegedly getting involved in unlawful influencing of match results in Kenya,” reads part of the statement.
“The disciplinary proceedings initiated against the coach have also been closed by the world soccer governing body.”
On Tuesday, FIFA found the co-accused guilty of having been involved in match manipulation in violation of art. 69 par. 1 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (2017 ed.) (Unlawfully influencing match results).
The three Kenyan players, Moses Chikati of Kakamega Homeboyz, Festus Okiring, who left Homeboyz for Ulinzi Stars, and Festo Omukoto who joined to Western Stima from Homeboyz, were banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity at national and international level (administrative, sports or any other) for a period of four years.
In the same case, a Ugandan player and former Kakamega Homeboyz player George Mandela was also banned from all football-related activities for life.
The formal disciplinary proceedings against the individuals stemmed from an investigation into various matches from the Kenyan Premier League in 2019.
Nkata and his four players were accused by Homeboyz owner Cleophas Shimanyula of receiving cash to influence the outcome of top-flight matches where Sony edged out Homeboyz 2-1 in Awendo while Mathare triumphed 3-2 at Kasarani Stadium.
The former City Stars, Muhoroni Youth, Tusker and Bandari coach replaced Mike Mururi at the Kakamega-based side in May 2018, penning a one-year contract that was due to expire in May 2019.
