The world football governing body FIFA has summoned four players over possible match fixing in the Kenyan Premier League.
The FIFA Integrity Unit said in an e-mail that it’s continuing with procedures to investigate match-fixing and has summoned players for questioning on November 24.
The players under investigation are Sammy Sindani, Vincent Misikhu, Martin Elungat, and Johnstone Ligare who all previously turned for KPL side Zoo FC.
Several coaches and match official are also set to be questioned in regard to various match-fixing allegations made in 2009 season.
Football Kenyan Federation (FKF) has acknowledged the receipt of the e-mail from FIFA and it has promised to give the world governing body the full support.
“FKF is in receipt of communication from FIFA with regard to preliminary investigations on alleged incidents of match manipulation in Kenyan football. In this regards, FIFA has requested FKF for support in their investigations as they plan to interview various players, coaches, and officials involved in Kenyan football by providing premises for the interviews and inviting the aforementioned individuals,” a letter sent to one of the subjects and signed by FKF CEO Barry Otieno reads in part as per Nation.Africa.
In February, FIFA revealed that a number of games in the Kenya Premier League (KPL) 2019 season were manipulated. The body went ahead to ban four footballers from the Kenyan top-tier league.
Three Kenyan and a Ugandan player were all been banned from any kind of football-related activity at national and international level (administrative, sports or any other) for a period of four (4) years.
Moses Chikati, Festus Okiring and Festo Omoto who turned out for Kakamega Homeboyz a couple of years ago earned the wanted distinction of being the poster boys of the vice after being banned by FIFA.
Former teammate and Uganda national, George Mandela, who at one time was the epitome of a consummate KPL professional, received a life ban.
