FIFA Warns Uganda FA Over Government Interference

World football governing body FIFA has threatened to suspend Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) over government interference.

World football governing body FIFA has threatened to suspend Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) over government interference.

Uganda will face the wrath of world football’s governing body unless Ugandan Authorities stop further investigations into the matters of suspended FA president Moses Magogo.

Uganda put itself on to a collision course with FIFA last week when the government’s criminal investigation department summoned Mr Allan Ssewanyana, who reported the case that resulted to Magogo’S two-months ban by FIFA for the illegal sale of 2014 World Cup tickets.

The action is deemed to be government interference in the sport as the laws of FIFA prohibit governments from interfering in the activities of football federations.

In a letter seen by Ducor Sports and which FIFA sent to FUFA’s general secretary, Edgar Watson, the football governing body clearly indicates that the plea bargain Magogo entered with FIFA is exclusively within FIFA’s regulations.

“FIFA informs the Federation of Uganda Football Federations (FUFA) that any act that may lead to violation of FIFA statues Art 14 par 1 (i) may lead to sanctions of FUFA,” part of the letter reads.

“Suspension of FUFA will automatically imply suspension of FIFA forward funding and participation of Uganda national teams and respective clubs from international football.”

Magogo was reported by Ssewanyana to FIFA in 2017, where the football boss was accused of selling an unspecified number of 2014 world cup tickets meant for Ugandans to foreigners.

FIFA then launched investigations and found out that Magogo violated Article 67 par.1 of the FIFA Code of Ethics and the parties mutually agreed on a number of sanctions including a two-month suspension from taking part in any kind of football-related activity at national and international level and a $10,000 fine.
