Kenya will be without Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon, Peres Jepchirchir, David Rudisha, Asbel Kiprop and Geoffrey Kamworor at the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
The women’s Olympic and world 1500m champion Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon will miss because she is expecting her first child while the women’s world half-marathon defending champion, Peres Jepchirchir, is on maternity leave.
800 metres Olympic champion and world record holder David Rudisha and two-time Olympic 1500m champion Asbel Kiprop made themselves unavailable and instead opted to focus on the Diamond League meetings which start in Doha in May.
The world 10,000m silver medallist Geoffrey Kamworor, is currently preparing to defend his world half-marathon title in Valencia on March 24.
With Kenya having topped the medal table in athletics at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with 10 gold medals, 10 silver and five bronze, it will remain to be seen if they can put up outstanding performances this time round since their most notable stars have opted out.
