On Saturday afternoon at 15h00, the historic first match of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) season will kick-off with fixtures scheduled in three parts of the country simultaneously.
Undoubtedly, one of the biggest attractions will be the opening act between AFC Leopards and Tusker FC at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.
Elsewhere in the first round of fixtures, newcomers Vihiga United will entertain Kakamega Homeboyz at Mumias Sports Complex in Kakamega as StarTimes Kenya begin to broadcast the first games of the BetKing sponsored league.
The match day will also see Bandari take on Sofapaka at Mbaraki Stadium in Mombasa as the clubs get ready to be to follow strict conditions stipulated by the Ministry of Health in curbing the spread of coronavirus.
Sofapaka has ten new players with some expected to start the match away to the Dockers. The John Baraza’s charges have been preparing for the start of the new season by playing several friendly matches.
“Whenever you see a team sign more than 10 players, know the team means business and is going for nothing less than the league title,” Sofapaka president Elly Kalekwa told reporters.
Newly promoted teams, City Stars and Bidco United are set to be the main headliners on Sunday as they are set to play against Nzoia Sugar and Western Stima respectively.
Fans will not be allowed in stadiums, as per the Ministry of Health guidelines which are part of its measures to curb the spread of coronavirus.
