Newly elected Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) president Dipu Ruparelia has extended an olive branch to the rival organization, Motorcycling Association of Uganda (MAU), which was recently formed to conduct motocross activities in the country.
The FMU president, who was voted in last weekend by the majority of clubs in the East African country, also said that he is determined to listen to the splinter group so as to solve their grievances.
Ruparelia was speaking Friday at Lugogo Sports Complex where he asked the splinter group to join forces with his organisation for the greater good of the sport.
“We don’t want to go on a warpath with anybody right now because we are all fighting for one thing. The betterment and unity of our sport. We still call on them, come, let’s sit and find a way forward,” said Ruparelia.
The Barak Orland group had announced their own calendar and have since organized an event scheduled for February 16 at Busiika.
“It is true they have concerns, but they must be addressed through the proper channels. The new process will damage the game,” Ruparelia added.
“The event is not sanctioned by FMU and shall not count points in the championship. However, we are open to discussion to sort out this problem and promote the sport.”
The chair of MAU, Orland, served as FMU deputy vice president in charge of motorcycling in the last office before secretly forming the new organization after the recently held FMU elections.
Rupaleria promised to bring change in the sport by engaging all stakeholders to forge a way forward for the sport.
