Gavin Hunt will take over from Ernst Middendorp as new coach of South Africa Premier Soccer League giants Kaizer Chiefs.
The club acted last Wednesday after Middendorp failed to deliver the 2019/20 Absa Premiership title despite leading Amakhosi in pole position for all of 28 rounds.
Kaizer Chiefs hired Middendorp for a second stint in December 2018 replacing Italian coach Giovanni Solina.
“We looked at our situation and our needs before deciding on Gavin,” confirmed Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung.
“He brings with him an abundance of experience, having coached about five teams in the Premiership. There is success wherever he has coached,” he added.
The Amakhosi will be competing in the next season’s African Champions League which Motaung has stated it’s a number one priority for the club.
“Playing on the continent is key for us as we haven’t done as well as we should have,” Motaung noted.
“We have players who have participated in the competition and this experience should certainly be to our advantage.
“The other thing I have always emphasized is the need for coaches to equip themselves with the requisite knowledge. The game has changed and become much more scientific”, Motaung concluded.

This knowledge will come in handy to guide our team. We are looking forward to him sharing his experience with the team.” [/perfectpullquote]
Hunt was previously in charge of Bidvest Wits whom he left after the club’s top-flight status was sold to National First Division (NFD) outfit Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila.
The 56-year-old has an impressive CV having won three league titles in a row with SuperSport between 2007 and 2010.
The gaffer also Wits to their first-ever league title in the 2016/17 season and he guided the team to Telkom Knockout Cup and several MTN Super Cup triumphs.
