Former Congo national team goalkeeper Michel Ngombo has passed on, the Congolese Football Federation (FECOFOOT) has confirmed.

The 65-year-old goal-minder passed away at his home in Nice after returning home from a local hospital where he had been taken for treatment.

Ngombo, who lived in France, was ailing from heart-related issues.

He was the goalkeeper for national side the Red Devils between 1976 -1982 after being discovered as a talented player at the age of 17 after completing school in Brazzaville.

He was also in the Congo squad which reached the semi-finals of the 1974 Africa Cup of Nations finals that were held in Egypt alongside Jean-Jacques Ndomba “Geometer”, Endzanga and Ebomowa.

At the club level, the shot-stopper played for semi-professional side CARA Brazzaville in the Congo Ligue 1 before joining Etoile du Congo and later moved to France where he joined Château-Roux.

In 2006, he suffered a heart attack and later got a stroke that paralyzed his left side.
