In a surprise to football fraternity, Mohammed Geddo has decided to retire from professional football and concentrate on other things in life.

The news of the striker’s retirement could be seen as a shock and comes few weeks after he parted ways with Egyptian Premier League outfit El-Gouna.

The 2010 Africa Cup of Nations hero joined El Gouna in summer 2018 following a successful spell at Arab Contractors.

The 36-year old started his career with home club Ala’ab Damanhour in 2002 before joining Ittihad of Alexandria in the 2005 season.

Gedo joined Egyptian giants Al Ahly in 2010 and helped the club win African Champions League title two times, two Egyptian Premier League titles, Egyptian Super Cup title and the African Super Cup twice.

He signed for English Premier League side Hull City on loan from Ahly in the 2013 season as he made 17 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals.

Gedo won 36 international caps for Egypt and represented the country in 2010 Africa Cup of Nations where he emerged as the tournament’s top scorer.

“I feel it’s the appropriate time to retire,” Gedo tweeted.

“I spent a brilliant time in the field. It was more than I expected. I am lucky to have achieved all my dreams which wouldn’t have come true without your (fans) support,” Gedo added.

“I am now ready for a new trip in my life, thank you all.”
