Kenyan Premier League (KPL) side Sony Sugar have unveiled former Harambee Stars coach James Nandwa as their new coach.
Nandwa takes over from Patrick Odhiambo who ditched the Sugar-belt club in June and joined Gor Mahia as an assistant to coach Hassan Oktay.
The cash-strapped Awendo based side resumed training on Thursday evening, ending speculation that the team was on the verge of disbandment. Sony’s financial woes have seen them lose nearly all their key players and they have now begun rebuilding.
A source from the club has confirmed that Nandwa will be appointed head coach while former Harambee Stars, Tusker FC, AFC Leopards and Sofapaka team manager Willis Waliaula will be the new club technical director.
“Nandwa is the new head coach while [Willis] Waliaula will be the club technical director. We also have new sponsors coming on board,” the source revealed.
The tactician will be assisted by club veterans Sylvester Wanyama and Marwa Chamberi who joined the technical bench after hanging their boots.
Nandwa is vastly experienced having coach Tusker FC, AFC Leopards, Thika United, Kakamega Homeboyz and Posta Rangers. He has also served as an assistant and head coach of the national team Harambee Stars. He was in charge of Harambee Stars in 2012 when the team reached the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in Uganda where the team lost to the hosts in the final.
