Former St George goalkeeper Patrick Matasi has moved back to Kenya to join 2020/2021 FKF Premier League champions Tusker FC ahead of the new season.
Matasi penned a two-year contract with the Ruaraka-based side on Saturday after successful negotiations.
A statement from the club reads; “ We would like to confirm that goalkeeper Patrick Matasi has re-joined the team on a two-year contract.”
The legendary goalkeeper’s comeback is considered as a homecoming signing since he was part of the club before making a switch to Ethiopia Premier League giants three seasons ago.
Speaking to the Brewers media in his first interview, he said; “ I am really happy to be back at Tusker and it’s a great pleasure for me, I was here for only three months then left and for me to come back means there is something I didn’t fulfill as a player. I am here to work and fight to defend the badge of the club.”
“I come in to a great team which has achieved a lot. Tusker has won the league and qualified to represent the country in the CAF Champions League and this means a lot me as a player. I have to work hard and fight to defend the badge of the club,” Matasi added.
The 33-year-old has enjoyed an illustrious career playing for the likes of West Kenya Sugar, AFC Leopards, Posta Rangers before landing in Addis Ababa in 2018.
He made 56 appearances for the Horsemen in an ill-fated spell with the club, conceding 24 goals and being relegated to the bench in his last season.
Matasi won 26 caps for Kenya and in his prime was renowned as one of the Africa’s best goalkeepers.
