Former Zamalek Coach Retires From Management

Former Zamalek coach Christian Gross has announced his retirement from football management.

Former Zamalek coach Christian Gross has announced his retirement from football management.

The 65-year-old Swiss has enjoyed an illustrious career in coaching, having been in-charge of some of top clubs in Europe including Tottenham Hotspurs, Grasshopper, VfL Stuttgart and  BSC Young Boys.

He also coached Saudi outfit Al-Ahli on two successful spells where he won the Saudi Crown Prince Cup, the Saudi Professional League and the King Cup.

After managing football for almost 32 years, Gross has now decided to call time on his coaching career.

Speaking on Swiss SRF TV show Sportpanorama, he said, “I decided to stop coaching. I don’t think I’ll be back anytime soon.”

Despite the decision, Gross did not rule out return to the beautiful game in the future: “If I receive a good offer, then why not? You never know.”

Gross took charge of Zamalek last season and helped them win the CAF Confederation Cup last summer, the first such win in the club’s history.

The White Knights choose not to renew his one year contract despite the successes with the Egyptian Premier League giants.
