The results of the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon have determined the final four spots for teams that have qualified for the FIFA World Cup on India, in October, following the group stage clashes.
Niger and Mali became the latest teams to each book a slot representing Africa. Niger beat Tanzania 1-0 in what was a nerve-wracking encounter in the final Group B matches to take the second position, above Tanzania on goal difference.
Defending champions, Mali swept Angola aside with a 6-1 win to finish as group leaders.
Guinea and Ghana were the first to qualify for the semifinals and ultimately secured a place at the World Cup in India. Playing in Group A, the two teams finished in a goalless draw to accumulate a point each, which was enough for Guinea to finish as runners-up behind Ghana.
Ghana will face Niger in the first semifinal in Port Gentil on Wednesday 24 May while Guinea takes on Mali, in the day’s second match in Libreville.
